The Biologicals and Vaccines Institute of Southern Africa (Biovac) is expanding its biopharmaceutical manufacturing footprint in Cape Town through a multi-vaccine project. The initiative includes technology transfer agreements for vaccine fill and finish manufacturing as well as the end-to-end scale-up of an internally developed Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV). The project involves constructing a new green facility designed to manufacture up to 250 million vaccine doses per year, comprising a glass vial fill & finish suite, a drug substance suite for inactivated OCV, and a blow-fill-seal plastic line for fill & finish.

The Biologicals and Vaccines Institute of Southern Africa (Biovac), supported by IFC financing, is establishing a new vaccine manufacturing facility adjacent to its Cape Town operations. The project entails constructing a facility with a glass vial fill-and-finish suite, drug substance suite, and blow-fill-seal plastic line for producing vaccines including Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV), Meningococcal Vaccine (Mening-X), Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV), Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV), and Rotavirus Vaccine.
